Folk musician Mary Edna unites protest with art – upcoming events

This week I am putting on my musical hat. In the 60’s and 70’s I was a folk singer and traveled the South, mainly in my home state of NC, playing guitar on porches and various venues. My first coffee house was opened when I was in the 10th grade in a church basement in Fayetteville, NC. Singers from NY and DC would stop in to warm up in our little dimly litle den before their night club gigs. At East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, I organized another coffee house for students and musicians. This Thursday, January 7th, is a reliving of that era on Kiawah.  On Saturday, January 9th, you can come to the Charleston County Library to see Lime and the Coconuts.

Lime (Mary Edna Fraser) & the Coconuts (various talented musicians) reach to the past for swing standards and tunes that make you want to tap your feet. Fraser’s guitar, banjo, accordion, mandolin and marimba backs up her expresive voice.  On the Ukulele is Sandy Hines who sounds like a scratchy old time record.  Noodle is a whiz on the Uke and has a vaudeville delivery.  Jeff Narkiewicz plays doghouse bass and Keith Nam’s sax and clarinet round out the sound for this appearance.

Come join the jocularity.
