We invested in rooftop solar in 2016 and Dominion Energy’s monopoly in our region is trying to change solar pricing in a way that would demolish the industry. In short, their proposal would move from net metering to a hybrid instantaneous netting system, thus lowering payouts to solar power producers, and add two new fees, one fixed fee and one proportional to the size of your solar system. And there\u2019s no grandfathering — current solar customers would get forced onto this plan by 2025, even if you budgeted and planned for the current system.

When the utilities did this in Nevada in 2015, they killed the solar industry overnight, and it took the legislature\u2019s intervention to lure some of the solar companies back.

If you want to do everything you can on opposing Dominion’s proposal, then in addition to signing the opposition letter from Conservation Voters of SC<\/a> you can write an official letter of protest to the South Carolina Public Service Commission, referencing docket number 2020-125-E, or email them at co*****@ps*.gov<\/span><\/a>. And again, the March 23rd public hearing will be critical. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
