Kiawah Spit still unaltered, opposition to revetments being heard in court

This update about the proposed development of the Kiawah Spit by Kiawah Development Partners (KDP) was sent out by Friends of the Kiawah River on August 30, 2009:

The hearing concerning the Kiawah River Revetment between KDP, represented by Leonard Long, and DHEC has finished. Our legal team (SCELP) supported DHEC in their decision to oppose the additional 2500′ of revetment, and opposed DHEC in their decision to allow the initial 273′ of revetment near to the Beachwalker car parking lot. Our team is confident, but it all depends on the judge, who may take several weeks to make a decision. The judge was changed at the last minute, when it was discovered that the original judge was a fraternity friend of Leonard Long.
