Nancy Vinson argues for protection of Kiawah Spit from development

Please watch the following videos made by our friend Nancy Vinson to receive an authoritative knowledge of the history of Kiawah Island’s development and the folly of building on one its most valuable assets, the Kiawah Spit.

Part 1 9:40

Part 2 5:14

“This presentation is about a development planned for one of the most unstable places on the East Coast.  It’s at the end of Kiawah Island, next to Captain Sam’s inlet, on a highly mobile spit of sand, a hazardous place for homes, but a haven for wildlife, including threatened and endangered species.  I want to tell you not only about the developer’s plan to build here, but about his plan to have taxpayers subsidize the development with Federal flood insurance and emergency repairs after storms. ”

-Nancy Vinson, program director for the Coastal Conservation League
