“Doubt global warming? The planet won’t tell a lie”

Today’s e-mail blast from the Southeast Coastal Climate Network links to a blog authored by renowned coastal geologists Dr. Orrin H. Pilkey and Dr. Rob Young.  Their previous work together includes authoring The Rising Sea:

Dear all,

“Doubt global warming? The planet won’t tell a lie” is a co-authored blog featured in USA Today by Orrin H. Pilkey, professor emeritus at Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment and Rob Young, director of Western Carolina University’s Program for the Study of Developed Shorelines.

The blog is a quick and informative read.  Perhaps more importantly is the attached document which has captured the back and forth dialogue between Pilkey, Young and commenters on their blog.

Those of you who work with the public on these issues will not be shocked by the questions.  Reading how Pilkey and Young respond to climate deniers is well worth your time.

This time last year, it was thought that we were ‘beyond’ trying to convince people of the science and rather we should just focus on the solutions to the problem.  I’m afraid that there is an ever growing movement to undermine the validity of climate science and to erode the trust of scientists.  We still need to stay focused on the solutions, but should be prepared to deal with deniers that will be coming out of the woodwork.
