Video of Cape Island & Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge after Hurricane Irene

She said about this region and her organization’s work: “It is astonishing what can change in one night, but these are barrier islands and they are always changing! It will be a major challenge next summer to monitor this island for turtle nests since it is no longer contiguous —- and it will be interesting to see where the turtles go.  We had over 1400 nests in the refuge this year with the majority on Cape.  SEWEE is working with the refuge to make sure that they have the necessary personnel to manage the nest relocation project while their budget is being slashed by Congress.”
